Q:  Why do you think that there is this amazing 
response to McLuhan in the ’90s?

A:  People who have been exposed to McLuhan 
originally have come to realize that digital 
technology is making his prophecy of a global 
village come true in a sense that he had never 
really predicted, but which is even more valid than 
he could have ever guessed at the time. You see 
signs around you of this shrinking planet, and of 
people connecting with each other and the 
tribalism and the immediacy of media, and the 
influence of media, and so I think people are going 
back to the original source of the analysis and
